Privacy and cookies

What this site collects, the cookies it uses, and how to change your mind.

What we collect

We don't ask for your name, email or any account details. If you accept analytics cookies, Google Analytics records how the site is used: which pages are visited, roughly where visitors are (country or city level), the device and browser, and how people arrived. We use this only to see which guides are useful and to improve them.

If you reject analytics cookies, Google Analytics doesn't load and nothing is recorded.

_ga_<ID>Google AnalyticsKeeps track of the current session2 years

Analytics cookies are only set after you click Accept analytics. Your choice itself is saved in your browser's local storage (not a cookie) so we don't ask again on every page.

Change your choice

If you switch from accepting to rejecting, we delete the analytics cookies from this site straight away.

Affiliate links

When you click a link to Amazon or another retailer, you leave this site. That retailer may set its own cookies, for example so Amazon knows you came from us. Their privacy policies cover what they do; see Amazon's privacy notice.

Google Analytics

Google processes analytics data on our behalf. You can read how Google uses data from sites that use its services, or install Google's opt-out browser add-on.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you can ask what data is held about you and ask for it to be deleted. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.
